Mayor Esther Manheimer was back in Washington, D.C. in late September, along with Gov. Josh Stein, to advocate for further funding allocations for Asheville and the broader Western North Carolina region, nearing the one-year anniversary of Tropical Storm Helene.

Manheimer has helmed the city since 2013, and recently announced her run for a fourth term as the city’s top elected official, with long-term recovery from Tropical Storm Helene a central focus of her campaign. She has served on City Council since 2009.
