ASHEVILLE, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Mayor Esther Manheimer and Interim Police Chief Jackie Stepp have issued a joint statement regarding recent gun violence in Asheville.

The mayor and police chief said Asheville has seen a number of incidents since Saturday, March 7.

Officials said the Asheville Police Department is actively investigating these incidents and collaborating with its federal, state, and local partners, focusing on identifying and prosecuting repeat violent gun offenders.

According to the mayor and chief, the department has also increased police presence in areas where gun violence has occurred.

The pair is calling on the Asheville community to help prevent further violence. Anyone who would like to share information anonymously is asked to call the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, the victims grappling with trauma, and all the members of our community who are feeling the pain and fear caused by the recent gun violence in Asheville,” officials said.
