ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Asheville City Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night, Aug. 25, to terminate its contract with Flock Safety, following concerns about privacy and public safety raised by community members.
Several community members voiced their concerns during the meeting, highlighting the debate between privacy and public safety.

The discussion came days after Mayor Esther Manheimer posted on social media that she would be pushing for a ban on Flock Safety cameras.
According to Manheimer, there are currently 11 Flock cameras in Asheville, primarily in the downtown area.
