ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville City Council approved a $6 million grant on Tuesday for Right at Home, a three-year pilot program that works to keep people from losing their homes in the first place, through rental assistance, case management and other support.
The City of Asheville is the lead agency for the Asheville-Buncombe Continuum of Care. The city will hold the funds and contract with local nonprofits to provide services directly to people at risk of losing their housing. The goal is to serve at least 1,000 households, with services expected to be available by January.
“It’s a real honor for our community to be included in this,” said Emily Ball, the city’s Homeless Strategy Division Manager.
Asheville and Buncombe County are one of 10 communities nationwide chosen for the pilot, which was first announced in February.
